Design studio

In autumn 2017 the Packaging and 3D Graphic Solutions Development Centre was created in order to fully meet all of your ideas. In this new Design Studio we offer a professional and creative solution for orders of design of the shape and functional construction, the effective use and visual effects according to ideas and concepts of our clients. We help to create “new” and “other than others” for our clients so that they have their design and materialization of the packaging of their product in one place and in one process. Our colleagues in the Design Studio have many years of experience in the product and industrial design, from the creation of packaging and prototype samples to the interior architecture.

In addition, further colleagues – graphic designers know how to process and technically supervise your data and they are also able to continually adapt to the intentions of your graphic designers with the aim to adjust the existing designs to our technologies or even to develop them. This activity is varied, comprehensive and often time and capacity demanding. Therefore we closely cooperate with the leading graphic studios and advertising agencies. If a more effective communication is needed, we can connect you directly to the creative studio. All of this with only one aim – the best possible result and your greatest satisfaction.

How do we perceive design?
Design does not only mean articles, boxes, images, letters and colours to us. In this company design refers to the speech which the client uses to address his customers. This speech has its shape, surface, colour, tone, image and handwriting that form the unique character of the client distinguishing him from the others. If the character is strong, positive and straightforward, the customers of our clients will see them in the same way. This is the ultimate aim of our company i+i print.

Digital Printing

Besides other technologies, we have been using the digital printing technology in our printing house i+i print as well. Digital printing is the phenomenon of our times. Its main advantage is the cost saving in prepress which enables low prices for low volumes.

The term digital printing originated from the connection with the computer technology. This term is used for everything that is printed from 'computer'. According to the way how the image is formed, the three tendencies in the digital printing technology can be distinguished:
1. - Laser printing that works on the principle of the toner technology. In this case the pigment is being formed on the substrate by the laser.
2. - Ink-jet is the technology using the injection of the ink through micro-nozzles on the printed material.
3. - Nanotechnology of the fixation of the coloured nanoparticles through the offset belt on the printed material.

Each of these technologies has many subcategories and specializations, since there are many kinds of materials that have to be printed on and there are demands for the lower, respectively higher quality of the printed image and also for the colour fade resistance and so on.

Digital Printing in i+i print in Bratislava
The digital printing technology is excellently complemented to the offset technology. They both multiply our possibilities. Our digital printing has several important advantages:
- the top productivity in its segment
- no prepress
- low prices in low volumes
- the same quality and colour [also at reprint]
- possibility of printing FROM ONE COPY, sample production, printing tests
- almost every material with the size up to 50 mm can be printed on, including special effects [relief varnishing, different surface and structural effects, patented 3D optic effects]

Digital printing is often used in the personalization of printed documents that are printed by other technologies. It is an integral part of our technologies mainly because of the two benefits:
1.- Variability of versatility - every print product is an original
2.- high printing quality

We included digital printing into our processes at the moment when this technology has already reached the quality that can meet the most demanding requirements of our clients.
We use it also for the production of digital proofs that substituted chromalins after introducing the CTP (computer to plate) technology in the offset.
Digital printing is mostly used by our company, i+i print, for the production in the packaging industry and advertisement.

Digital Printing from the Perspective of Physics
The logic of the optic perception originates in the more traditional offset technology. Both raster dots of the individual colours and the colour of the printed material create the desired colour. While the raster dots and their mutual distances are smaller than the resolving power of the eye, the image seems to be entire. To reach the printing quality that is as close as possible to the offset and this means to the reality, the digital printing can use the help of the common system of the basic colours cyan, magenta, yellow and black, that are known as CMYK and various direct colours und supplemental colours. In the last decade improving of the colour management system approximated digital printing to offset.

Conclusion: Why digital printing in i+i print?
In a positive sense you could say that digital printing is not the same now as it used to be. The printing quality is significantly better. The wide spectrum of effects and printing on arbitrary material enables an unprecedented space for the creativity of our clients.
By a suitable combination of the benefits of both technologies, we can compose the best and the most effective oeuvre from the ideas of our clients. In addition, our technologies from swissQprint, HP and Heidelberg printing machines are the best in the world in terms of quality and productivity. Thanks to the unique combination of top technologies and several decades of experience, we can guarantee a result of extraordinary quality.

Offset Sheet Printing

Besides other technologies we use also the technology of the offset sheet printing. Offset print is undoubtedly the best and the most used printing technology. And now, we will tell you why.

Offset Print or Offset
The English name offset has expanded to other languages. Thanks to its high quality, speed and universality it is considered leading printing technology.
The offset is the lithography where the printing and non printing areas are virtually on the same level. The offset is an indirect print, because the print is at first transferred from the printing form to the rubber cylinder and only then subsequently to the paper.
As the color is transported twice, the image in the printing form is not retrograded. Thanks to the rubber cylinder and its capability to adhere also to an uneven surface the offset can print also the most subtle details. The image and the colours originate from the optical illusion that uses the imperfection of the human eye based on the colour registration of the four basic offset colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, known as CMYK and the colour of the paper. Offset colours are transparent and enable the flexible colour management. Every colour is applied on rubber cylinders from the printing plates in form of the so called screens that are turned to one another. The most used screen angle is: C - 15°, M - 75°, Y - 0°, K - 45°. The issue of screening is although much more complicated and many other ways of screening angles and other ways of screening are used, mainly because of the occurence of the so called Moiré effects. The issue of the Moiré has already been fully examined and solved. The recent prepress RIPs are able to create the screening angles that automatically eliminate Moiré.
The big advantage of the offset is also the possibility of printing so called Pantone colours, different metallic colours and types of varnishes. It enables the graphic designers to reach extraordinary results that often raise the aesthetic level of the printed materials.

Why actually Offset?
Why is the offset so popular and prevalent? From the point of view of the quality of images, colours and time it is obviously the most favourable solution. Digital printing has become more popular recently but the offset maintains its position in the graphic industry. If needed, you can find information about the digital printing, its benefits and disadvantages in our section Digital printing.

Packaging

Packaging is a common phenomenon of recent times. It is also a common part of our production. The appropriate composition of technologies, experience, material and human potential led to a virtually unlimited range of packaging designs and production. Creativity has no limits in our company. We are able to design and produce packages according to the ideas of our clients, eventually to outperform them. Our greatest advantage is that we can produce packages from one piece to the medium size series. We use paper, card-board, plastics, recycled materials or their combination. Foodstuff or industrial products, gift boxes or simply formed information messengers about the product inside - well, everything can be packed.

Few Words about Packaging
The first packages are as old as the mankind itself. Paper as a material for packaging was for the first time recorded in Egypt in 1035 when the Persian traveller wrote that the items sold on the market in Cairo where packed in paper. In the middle ages people started to use tin besides the traditional materials as wicker, ceramics, leather, wooden boxes and barrels, weaved bags from grass and cane. The tin jars spread around the known world, especially metal tin boxes for tobacco and tea.

From boxes there was only one step to cans. The French inventor Nicolas Appert constructed the first can with the help of tinning. The first factory for the canned products was built in Southwark Park Road in London. The world-wide, especially the colonial trade demanded transports of the large amounts of well storable goods. The swift development of packaging began and led to the boom of the world trade.

In the first half of the 19th century the corrugated board was invented. It served mainly for packaging hats. In 1890, the Scotsman Robert Gair invented the pre-cutted cardboard boxes. And then everything went on quite quickly. The mechanical qualities of the covers have improved and people started to print on them. Due to the fact that the issue of packaging is extremely broad and important and influences all parts of our lives, in 1952 the first university was established to teach packaging techniques in the US, in the state Michigan.

Recently new materials using the recycled raw materials have been developed. In 2003 packaging made 2% on the average of the financial level of the GDP.

Special Production

The special production is for us, in i+i print, the supreme form of challenge. Our attitude towards it is the mystery. We do not avoid it, just on the contrary, we look for it. For our specialists it presents the possibility to capitalize their mastery and many years of experience in the various sectors of the graphic industry to reach the top result. To our clients it means that their creativity will not be defined in the common technical limits. We can exceed them and make random combinations.

We not only print on different materials, but we varnish them on full or partial surface, on flat level or in relief. We can make the relief by cutting, embossing or hot foil embossing. We cut out, cut, crease, punch and subsequently we sew it with clips, threads, screws or spirals, or we stitch it with clams, filaments, screws or wires or we make the perfect binding with soft or hardcovers. Finally everything is folded manually or by machine to the final form. Special mechanisms are applied to reach comfortable usage. After assembling we distribute them directly.

This complex outcome, termination of the order is the maximum we can offer to our client. And we believe it is anything but little.
